On timing Jitter in wavelength-division multiplexed soliton systems

چکیده
Collision-induced timing shifts in a wavelength-division multiplexed soliton system are computed when damping, amplification, filtering and positive dispersion management following the loss profile are included. A statistical analysis is presented which takes into account the resulting effect of the large number of collisions occurring in the fiber. Analytic expressions are derived for the root mean square timing jitter and the maximum length of error-free transmission with an arbitrary number of channels. An extensive analysis of system performance corresponding to situations with and without filters andror dispersion management is carried out. q 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved. Analysis of soliton collisions in a wavelength-division- multiplexed dispersion-managed soliton transmission system.
Timing jitter induced by soliton collisions is the leading nonlinear penalty in wavelength-division-multiplexed (WDM) dispersion-managed soliton transmission. Through analysis and numerical simulations we show that consecutive complete collisions together with partial collisions at the system output cause approximately the same amount of timing shift as partial collisions at the system input. W...
متن کاملA comparison between lumped and distributed filter models in wavelength-division multiplexed soliton systems
The effects of lumped and distributed filtering on soliton interactions are considered in a dispersion-managed transmission link when the dispersion steps approximate the lossramplification profile. A detailed comparison of the collision-induced timing shifts and corresponding timing jitter for both lumped and distributed filtering models is carried out. Ž . Ž . In particular, we show that: i t...
متن کاملSliding Window Criterion Codes and Concatenation Scheme for Mitigating Timing-Jitter-Induced Errors in WDM Fiber Transmissions
We propose a concatenated coding scheme, which effectively reduces bit errors induced by soliton–soliton collisions (SSC) in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) soliton transmission systems. A block line coding scheme, the sliding window criterion (SWC) code, is developed based on the nature of SSC-induced timing jitter in soliton communications. We show, by simplified collision model simula...
متن کاملA Line Coding Scheme for Reducing Timing Jitter in Wdm Soliton Systems
INTRODUCTION: In WDM soliton systems, the main sources of timing jitter (TJ) include the Gordon-Haus (GH) effect, soliton-soliton collisions (SSC), the acoustic effect, and the polarization mode dispersion. Although TJ from the GH effect is random from pulse to pulse, other sources lead to nonrandom TJ. Because the time displacements from the nonrandom sources highly depend on the pattern of tr...
متن کاملCollision-induced pulse timing jitter in a wavelength-division-multiplexing system with strong dispersion management
We develop a perturbation theory to calculate analytically the effects of interchannel collisions on Gaussian pulses in a wavelength-division-multiplexed (WDM) system with moderate and strong dispersion management (DM). The losses are assumed to be balanced by the amplification and are not explicitly included into the model. We show that, for complete collisions, the collision-induced frequency...
